1ST GRADE CURRICULUM

The development of linguistic and cultural literacy is a top priority for first grade. Our immersion program reinforces and expands each student’s foundation of the spanish language.

We implement the renowned Singapore Math program, aligning with the IB framework to promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of the world through numbers and patterns.

Developing the focus needed to succeed in the arts begins in first grade. Students learn how to create, perform, and listen, while singing, playing, creating and expanding their worldviews.

Physical and personal fitness is developed through movement and learning about the major muscle groups. Daily activities ensure the importance of lifelong physical activity while providing social, psychological and emotional development.

Within the IB framework, students explore the world's communities and societies, cultivating an appreciation for diverse cultures and their contributions.

Understanding and avoiding high risk behaviors is critical at this stage. Through learning growth and development, injury prevention, as well as personal and community health standards, we are enabling our students to make healthy choices.

In first grade, we embrace the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) framework, fostering a love for language by encouraging inquiry, expression, and effective communication.

We integrate the highly effective FOSS Science program within the IB framework, encouraging inquiry, investigation, and hands-on exploration.
