2ND GRADE CURRICULUM

In second grade, we embrace the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) framework and extend our commitment to nurturing a love for well-being and a conscious understanding of health. Our health section focuses on promoting health literacy and empowering students to make informed choices for a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

In the second grade, students explore the concepts of identity and the impact of historical figures. They begin with understanding their families and gradually extend their understanding to those who have shaped their communities and the world. The curriculum encourages service-learning, integrating history-social science concepts while developing essential literacy skills.

In second grade, we focus on refining motor skills, promoting fitness, and overall well-being. Students master locomotor and non-locomotor movements, enhance balance, coordination, and agility, and refine manipulative skills using various equipment. We emphasize regular physical activity, team building, and educating students about healthy lifestyles.

Students in visual and performing arts delve into an array of creative activities, building upon their previous knowledge and skills, nurturing artistic expression and creativity. They explore diverse art forms, experiment with various materials, and effectively connect their artistic expressions to other subjects and real-world experiences, fostering a love for creativity and self-expression.

In second grade, students will focus on algebraic thinking, measurements, and geometry, building a strong foundation for mathematical concepts through Singapore Math's Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract (CPA) approach.

In second grade, our priority remains strengthening linguistic and cultural literacy, particularly in the Spanish language. Building on foundational skills, we immerse students in a program designed to enhance their proficiency in Spanish. The emphasis is on practical communication, expanding vocabulary, and appreciating diverse cultures.

In second grade, we build upon the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) foundation, nurturing a passion for science through inquiry, exploration, and effective communication. Our curriculum is guided by the FOSS (Full Option Science System) approach, inspiring curiosity and hands-on exploration of various scientific phenomena, allowing students to delve deeper into the fascinating world of science.

Students in second grade aim to become proficient readers, competent writers, and effective communicators. Emphasis is on developing literacy skills to obtain information across various subjects and effectively convey learned knowledge.
